The main objective of the project is to contribute to an improvement in quality of life thanks to the significant reduction in CO2 emissions by municipalities, by encouraging and supporting local authorities to achieve and implement a more sustainable local energy policy.
The project focuses on bridging the gap between planning and the effective implementation of actions, by: Supporting the implementation of Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (capacity building, dialogue with investors, financial institutions and banks to help finance implementation projects, support to local stakeholders, etc.); Supporting the development of a local energy policy and the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (trainings, exchanges, dedicated helpdesk, awareness-raising, exchange of best practice and networking, etc.); Raising awareness and promoting signing up to, and implementing the new global Covenant initiative to be launched to succeed the current Covenant of Mayors.
The project maintains a presence across the region, with branches of the Covenant of Mayors covering all the countries targeted by the project.
