14 LOCALITIES BECOME MORE RESILIENT TO ENERGY CHALLENGES THROUGH ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND RENEWABLE ENERGY PROJECTS!

14 LOCALITIES BECOME MORE RESILIENT TO ENERGY CHALLENGES THROUGH ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND RENEWABLE ENERGY PROJECTS!

14 localities are becoming more resilient to energy challenges through energy efficiency and renewable energy projects!

14 localities in Moldova benefit from financial support and technical assistance in implementing energy efficiency and renewable energy projects within the project "Energy Resilient Communities for Moldova with the support of diaspora and native associations".

11 of the 14 beneficiary localities have been selected under the Diaspora Home Succeeds "DAR 1+3" programme and aim to improve the energy efficiency of local schools and kindergartens, upgrade outdated heating and street lighting systems, and initiate the transition to green energy. These are the villages of Geamăna, Andrușul de Jos, Telița, Cărbuna, Manta, Zberoaia, Tănătari, Zaim, Chetrosu, Seliște and the town of Ceadâr Lunga. Three other communities - Sireți, Țarigrad and Vinogradovca - have been selected to pilot innovative energy efficiency projects to help achieve the local CO2 reduction target of up to 30%, voluntarily undertaken by these municipalities under the European Covenant of Mayors initiative.

"Most municipalities in Moldova have no experience in implementing local development projects, let alone energy efficiency projects. With this project, we are providing both technical support and advice, as well as a financial contribution to rural communities to increase their energy resilience. We are glad to be able to bring important experience and expertise, thus complementing the investments offered from the Diaspora and German Cooperation in Moldova and strengthening the capacities of beneficiary local public authorities in the implementation of such projects, which are indispensable in the context of rising energy costs worldwide", said Irina Plis,
President of AEER.

This intervention will provide not only financial support, but also assistance to improve the technical and organisational capacities of the beneficiaries - individual consultations on project implementation, organisation of sector-specific procurement, supervision and monitoring of energy efficiency and renewable energy works, etc., various thematic trainings related to project management, local fundraising, as well as best available innovative practices.

The project "Energy Resilient Communities for Moldova with the Support of Diaspora and Native Associations" is supported by the project "Policy Advisory Fund", funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ), and implemented by AEER in partnership with the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy in Moldova.
