Illuminance - the directing of light onto a surface, object or the space around them so that they can be seen by people and is measured in lux (lx). From 70% to 90% of information is obtained through the visual organ (the eye). The volume and quality of this information is therefore determined by the quality of the illumination. Electric lighting is a basic component that ensures comfortable living conditions (work, rest, entertainment, movement, study, etc.).

The correct organisation of artificial lighting involves:

- the correct choice and installation of light sources;
- compliance with the regulations governing occupational safety requirements;
- strength, durability and convenience in operation.
